Pictures of ships floating in the sky off the coast of England have caused a stir. A man named Dan Morris took the picture from a place called Falmouth.
The BBC's meteorologist David Bryne says the incident has been called a "special mirage". Such a situation arises due to the bending of light in the atmosphere. He added that such mirages are often caused by the reverse temperature. Since cold air is relatively denser than hot air, it bends light on the ground and changes the distance depending on the position of the eye of the person standing on the ground. This is why the distant ship is seen above its own position.
He added that although such scenes are common in the Arctic, they are rare in the UK. Morris said he was stunned after the photo was taken.
