In the current financial year, the per capita income of the people of the country has increased to 2,824 US dollars. At the end of the last financial year, the per capita income was 2,591 dollars. At the same time, the GDP growth rate in this financial year stood at 7.25%, which was 6.94% in the last financial year.

This information has been provided by the Department of Statistics and Information Management of the Government and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.

In 2021-22 fiscal year, the per capita income increased to 2824 US dollars is reasonable, said the Minister of State for Planning, Shamsul Alam. He said, “In order to increase the income, more sales have been done in the market this Eid. Even in the village, everyone has a mobile in their hands, no one is barefoot. Real income increased. In the last financial year, it was 2591 dollars, which is also correct. We have an estimated 2,824 US dollars.”

He was responding to a question from reporters after the ECNEC meeting on Tuesday.

The state minister said inflation is higher in villages because demand is higher in villages. There is a shortage of workers. Guarantees are not getting women workers. But there is inequality, it exists in all countries of the world. However, inequality is expected to come down gradually.

According to a statement from the Bureau of Statistics, a provisional estimate of GDP for the fiscal year 2021-22 has been prepared on the basis of data for 6-7 months of the current financial year.

Planning Minister MA Mannan said, “The GDP growth rate for the current fiscal year 2021-22 is 7.25%. Corona’s GDP growth rate is much better in this situation. If it is 6.25% by March, it may increase further by the end of June, it may be 7.5%. The final GDP estimates will be available by next September.

According to the provisional calculation, the per capita income for the fiscal year 2021-22 stood at 2 lakh 41 thousand 480 taka or 2824 US dollars. In the fiscal year 2020-21, the per capita income was 2 lakh 19 thousand 736 taka or 2 thousand 591 US dollars. In other words, the per capita income has increased by 21 thousand 732 taka as compared to the last financial year.

In the last financial year, the size of GDP was 35 lakh 30 thousand 200 crore taka or 417 billion dollars. In the last financial year, the GDP growth rate was 7.94%. Due to Corona, the growth rate in the previous year 2019-20 fiscal year was 3.45%.

Asked whether the country’s economy has recovered, State Minister for Planning Shamsul Alam said, “The economy has not fully recovered from Corona. However, outside the circle, Bangladesh has made many improvements in various social indicators. Our remittances have been increasing in the last two years. Export earnings are also higher than at any time in the past. Apart from that, the import of capital equipment is increasing. We hope that by the end of the year, our growth rate could be more than 7.25%.”
