Bangladesh and India have agreed to implement policies on tourist, student, and business visas under the Revised Travel Arrangements (2018). Both countries have agreed to make visa procedures, entry and exit rules more flexible.
The decision was reached during a consular dialogue held in Dhaka on Monday (July 25).
The two sides discussed in-depth procedures to strengthen coordination and cooperation on consular issues during the dialogue. This included the completion of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the extradition of each other’s detained citizens as well as the expedited release of detained fishermen.
Both sides also welcomed increased cooperation among law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism, transnational crime, and improving mutual legal assistance. Both parties also pledged to continue working on citizen-centric consular operations.
Furthermore, in light of the two countries’ unique friendship and special bond, particularly on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, they agreed to strengthen bilateral relations through more facilitated exchanges.
The preceding Consular Dialogue will take place in New Delhi.
